Aaron Burmeister Wins
PenAir Spirit of Alaska Award
IDITAROD XLI Veteran Musher Aaron Burmeister (Bib #24) was the first to arrive into McGrath along the banks of the Kuskokwim River at 18:29 Alaska Time on Tuesday, March 5, 2013. Burmeister arrived with 15 dogs.
The prestigious PENAIR SPIRIT OF ALASKA AWARD was presented to Burmeister at a very brief award ceremony at the McGrath Checkpoint.
The award is a beautiful original “spirit mask” especially created for this event by Bristol Bay artist Orville Lind. In addition, Burmeister received a $500 credit toward travel or freight shipment.
Burmeister didn’t waste any time in the McGrath checkpoint. He departed at 18:32 with 15 dogs heading towards Takotna.
