To the Starting Line!

It's time, it's time!!

Did any of you catch the ceremonial start on Saturday?  I have to admit, I haven't caught up on the whole thing yet, but I did watch some highlights.  There were some very excited dogs out there on the streets of Anchorage!  How many booties can you see in this picture?

Sunday found the mushers and their teams schlepping their gear to Fairbanks and getting that last precious night sleep (and shower!) in civilization.  Iditarod trail breakers have been out prepping the trail and in a little over an hour, the race will get underway and the clock will start ticking.  Currently the weather is just right for mushing.  It's -4 degrees F with light snow.  The forecast calls for falling temperatures, so hopefully trail conditions will stay excellent for the 78 teams that are about to hit the trails.

Now is an excellent time to check out your musher. Many of them have a Facebook page or web site that is manned by someone while they are on the trail.  Check out your musher profiles at the Iditarod web site.  It's a lot of fun to know more about your musher as you watch them progress through the race.

If you are looking for information between my updates,  Iditarod.com is the best site for information on the race.

Best of luck to all participants, dogs, volunteers, vets, pilots, cooks, trail breakers, and every other person involved in making this such a great race.  Now...off to the starting line!
